Ingredients

For the Casserole
  • 5 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced (3 to 3 1/2 pounds) These vibrant potatoes form the comforting base of the dish.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Adds richness and smoothness for a velvety mash.
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar Provides caramel-like sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds warmth and depth to the flavor.
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice Brightens the dish with a zesty kick.
For the Topping
  • 10 ounces package miniature marshmallows Creates a fun, gooey topping.

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot of boiling water and cook until fork-tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. While the sweet potatoes are cooking, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Drain the cooked sweet potatoes and return them to the pot away from heat.
  4. Using a potato masher, mash the sweet potatoes until creamy.
  5. Stir in the unsalted butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and orange juice until well combined.
  6. Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into a greased casserole dish or a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and top with miniature marshmallows, spreading them evenly over the surface.
  3. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until marshmallows are puffy and gently golden.

Notes

For more flavor, consider adding a touch of vanilla extract or sprinkling chopped pecans over the marshmallows before baking. If preparing ahead, assemble without the marshmallows and refrigerate.
