Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries About 3 cups; essential for balancing sweetness.
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup Brings depth of flavor and caramel sweetness.
  • ½ cup chopped pecans Adds texture and a nutty aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest Infuses with fresh citrus aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar Adds complexity to flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries and maple syrup. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat and stir often for about 4 to 5 minutes until the cranberries start to burst.
  2. In a small, dry skillet, toast the chopped pecans over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring regularly until fragrant and lightly golden.
Combining
  1. Once the cranberry mixture has thickened and most skins have split, remove from heat and stir in the grated orange zest, balsamic vinegar, and toasted pecans. Mix well to blend flavors.
Serving
  1. Serve warm or chilled. If preferred chilled, store in a covered container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cinnamon or cayenne pepper while cooking. For a smoother relish, briefly blend with an immersion blender after cooking.
