Method

Preparation
  1. In a Dutch oven or large deep-sided pot, add the olive oil and sauté the chopped onions over medium heat for about 2 minutes, or until they start to soften.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the pot and sauté for an additional 2 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pot. Continue to cook it over medium heat, breaking it up into smaller pieces as it cooks. If there’s excessive grease, drain it before proceeding.
Cooking
  1. Pour in the tomato sauce, followed by the chili seasoning, salt, and crushed red pepper. Stir to ensure the meat is coated. Let it simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Add the chili beans (do not drain or rinse) and stir gently. Let it simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  3. Serve warm in bowls, allowing everyone to add their favorite toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding Worcestershire sauce or a splash of hot sauce. To make it vegetarian, substitute ground beef with plant-based alternatives or additional beans.
